Ferrari to run mid-week at Silverstone for filming day

Ferrari will gain some extra mileage over its rivals next Wednesday when it takes advantage of a filming day to run at Silverstone between the two Grands Prix at the track.

Teams are allowed two filming days during the year which are typically exploited to shake down a car during the pre-season period or to undertake promotional filming work.

The runs are limited to 100km – which equates to 17 laps at Silverstone – and cars must run on demo tyres supplied by Pirelli.

Ferrari pushed idea of customer cars during F1 crisis talks

The performance of Ferrari’s SF1000 has been a big disappointment so far this season, the car weighed down by its flawed aerodynamics and weak engine.

The Scuderia brought forward an update package that was implemented at the Styrian Grand Prix, but Ferrari will likely use its filming day to refine or test a few new parts.

As a reminder, to keep costs in check, Formula 1 and the FIA have frozen the regulations until the end of next year, a status quo that leaves very limited scope for development.
