Fantasy Injury Updates: Hunter Henry, T.J. Hockenson, Sam Darnold, Evan Engram affect Week 6 rankings | Sporting News

Hunter Henry hasn’t played since Week 1, and many fantasy owners may have forgotten about him. If he’s on your waiver wire, he’s worth a pickup as he approaches a return from his knee injury. Tight end rankings also have a question mark for the Lions, where T.J. Hockenson remains in doubt after being injured in Week 4. Evan Engram might miss Week 6, and also in New York, the Jets are hoping Sam Darnold passes tests to be cleared to play in Week 6, which would be a huge QB upgrade for all the Jets’ offensive players. You need updates on these key players, and we have them below.

When will Hunter Henry be back?

Chargers’ head coach Anthony Lynn wouldn’t rule out Hunter Henry for Week 6 when asked about him on Monday. Henry hasn’t played since Week 1 due to a knee injury. Henry has yet to return to practice, so it would be encouraging to see a return to the practice field at some point this week.

Henry’s a top-10 TE when healthy, so if he was dropped in your league, now’s the time to pick him up. In his absence, it’s been Virgil Green and Lance Kendricks providing uninspiring play for the Chargers at tight end.

T.J. Hockenson injury update

Hockenson sustained a concussion in Week 4 on a failed hurdle attempt and awkward landing. The Lions were on Week 5 bye, so we haven’t had any real updates on Hockenson other than that he won’t be placed on injured reserve. We should get an update on Hockenson’s concussion protocol status in the coming days.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Detroit tight ends split time with Hockenson out. Logan Thomas, former Virginia Tech QB, fits Hockenson’s role more and could essentially keep Jesse James in his same role with Hockenson out. If that happened, Thomas would be a deep-league TE sleeper.

Will Sam Darnold play Week 6?

UPDATE: Darnold has been cleared to play in Week 6, the Jets announced.

Adam Gase told reporters Monday that Darnold will undergo testing Tuesday, and if he’s cleared, he’ll start in Week 6 against the Cowboys. The only hurdle Darnold needs to clear in his return from mono involves his spleen: If it continues to swell when he works out, it runs the risk of bursting when he’s hit.

Dallas isn’t a great matchup for the Jets, but Darnold will be relevant to two-QB leagues upon his return. It’s also important for the Jets’ skill players, as the offense has been brutal under Luke Falk. Le’Veon Bell, Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder, Demaryius Thomas and Chris Herndon all must be eagerly awaiting Darnold’s return.

Is Evan Engram playing Thursday

Engram is a risk to miss Week 6’s Thursday night game against the Patriots while he’s dealing with a sprained MCL, per Adam Schefter. Rhett Ellison would start at tight end for the Giants if Engram is inactive.

Man, it could get ugly for New York on Thursday if all its “questionable” players are out. There could be an inactive list that includes Engram, Saquon Barkley, Wayne Gallman and Sterling Shepard. That would leave Ellison, Jon Hilliman and Darius Slayton among the skill players starting around Daniel Jones. Golden Tate could struggle to produce at all against a strong defense with no sort of help around him in that scenario.
