L’Équipe today report that La Liga giants Real Madrid intend to exercise patience in their pursuit of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, as Los Blancos’ boss Zinedine Zidane continues to target a deal for Paul Pogba.
It’s no secret that Real Madrid are very interested in Eduardo Camavinga and that Zinédine Zidane considers it important to bring some fresh blood to his midfield. However, there is nothing to suggest today that the Spanish club has made the recruitment of the 17-year-old a priority for the next transfer window, which in Spain will end on October 5th. It is out of the question for Real president Florentino Perez that the club makes any “break the bank” moves this summer, per the report.
The uncertainty surrounding the return of supporters to the Spanish stadiums for next season, which is scheduled to start on September 12th, also represents an obstacle to an eventual summer transfer spree. The sale of season tickets and matchday tickets as well as VIP boxes at the Bernabéu represents one third of Real’s revenues.
Camavinga does fit with the relatively new Madrid policy, which consists of betting on very young players, as had been the case with Vinicius (19), Rodrygo (19) or Reinier (18). Whilst Zidane is a fan of Camavinga, he still views Paul Pogba (27) as the ideal reinforcement for his team this summer, as a player very suited to the quick transition football style which now dominates the European scene.
The club’s failure to land Pogba in the summer of 2019 greatly annoyed Zidane and the coach will make a renewed pursuit for the Mino Raiola represented player – thus, Camavinga seems to be a rather distant option for Madrid at this present moment.
