During his first press conference as Olympique de Marseille manager, Igor Tudor outlined his teams’ playing style which has been highlighted as ambitious in his high-pressing oriented approach. The Croatian outlined his vision for Marseille:
“Every coach is different. I want courageous and intensive football not only uniquely based on the defence. I want people who come to the stadium to be entertained and not disappointed at all. It’s inevitable that there is a part of Italy in me because I worked there for long time. You have to pick players that are adapted to the game with passion and desire – I’m sure we will get to that point.”
The Croatian replaces Jorge Sampaoli after the Argentine’s shock exit on Friday. The former Juventus assistant, who was managing fellow Serie A club Hellas Verona this past season before leaving the club in May, has signed a two-year deal with Ligue 1’s second-place finishers. He has been praised for his ambitious, pressing-oriented style of play.
Sampaoli’s exit was quickly negotiated at the end of last week, with the former Argentina and Chile manager reportedly resigning over what he saw a lack of ambition in the transfer window ahead of next year’s Champions League campaign.
