— On last night’s WWE Backstage, CM Punk had a sit-down interview with Renee Young where he was asked about his surprise appearance the week prior as well as whether he is looking to return to the ring. Here are the highlights:
Punk talked about his role on WWE Backstage, stressing that his relationship is with FOX and not WWE. He explained that after six years, he felt it was a good fit being able to talk about the business and criticize it without having to face any repercussions like being jobbed or fired. He will talk about the good stuff and the bad stuff, which some people in the industry won’t like. Punk confirmed that only a very few select people even knew he was returning to TV last week. Among them was his wife, host Renee Young and about ten other people. Punk was asked about whether he is going to be returning to WWE TV to wrestle, given that Survivor Series is in Chicago. He says that while you never say no, it is not something he is pursuing or interested in and that he has had zero contact with WWE officials. Punk added that there are still significant bridges to be rebuilt. It sure seemed like he was leaving that door open. Punk was asked about the current WWE product and he said he feels the same as when he left that it is overproduced and micromanaged. One of the bright spots he sees is the women, but doesn’t agree with forcefully pushing the women’s revolution; instead he feels WWE should just let it happen naturally. He said he loves NXT as it reminds him of himself when he was in developmental and told that he would never make it.
