New UK Takeover Match, Impact & BTW Team Up, Matysik Passes Away

Triple H shocked fans earlier this week when he announced that the NXT UK brand will be receiving its very first Takeover show in early 2019. WWE is currently in the United Kingdom taping episodes of NXT UK, so much of the card for the event has already been revealed. During the tapings in Liverpool, England this past Sunday, it was announced that Eddie Dennis and Dave Mastiff will face off in a No Disqualification match on the show. Meanwhile, it was determined that the team of Zack Gibson & James Drake will be the ones to take on Moustache Mountain for the chance to become the first-ever NXT UK Tag Team Championships. NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool airs live on the WWE Network on Sunday, January 19th.
Impact Wrestling has been moving up in quality throughout 2018, and the promotion is hoping to get even bigger and better next year. Anthem Sports & Entertainment officials are said to be negotiating with several networks for a new TV deal for Impact, and Impact is still maintaining great relationships with other wrestling promotions. Case in point, Impact has announced that they will be partnering with Big Time Wrestling for their Gold Rush event. The event will be streaming live on Twitch on November 30th, and multiple stars from Impact Wrestling will be featured on the show. Gold Rush will also be headlined by a match between Johnny Impact and Eli Drake for the Impact World Heavyweight Championship.

Numerous legends and names from the world of pro wrestling have sadly passed away this year. Bruno Sammartino, Vader, and Jose Lothario are only some of the names who have died in 2018, but it has now been tragically reported that wrestling promoter Larry Matysik has died as well. Matysik’s passing was confirmed on Facebook by Herb Simmons. Matysik’s health had been declining for a number of weeks, and he lived to be 72-years-old. Larry Matysik is perhaps most famous for his work as a promoter and ring announcer for Wrestling at The Chase throughout the 1970s. He also worked for Vince McMahon in the WWF from 1984-1993. Simmons’ full post on the matter can be found down below:
“It’s with a heavy heart this morning that I come to each of you and
give you the news that my good friend Larry Matysik has lost the battle.
As many know his health has been declining over the past several years.
I ask that you keep his wife Pat and Daughter Kelly in your thoughts
and prayers as the next few days will be hard for them. I will continue
to update you on the arrangements when they are available.”
