AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes took to Twitter last night and responded to a tweet on his Stardust character in WWE.
Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT had tweeted on the Stardust character that Cody portrayed from June 2014 until May 2016, right before he was released on May 22 of that year.
He wrote, “Sometimes, I think… WWE had Cody Rhodes portray Stardust for TWO years. Like… that’s a lot to think about. What were they actually thinking? Even after a year they could have done a whole ‘Cody Rhodes reborn’ type of angle. It’s hard to rationalise how they wasted him.”
Cody responded to the tweet and took the blame for Stardust not working.

“Not pushing Stardust wasn’t the crime, the character had broke me and I was a subpar performer under the paint during that period. The crime was not capitalizing on 2010-12 where I was cooking with gas and my live event work was top level consistent. In the end, blame is on me,” Cody wrote.
Rhodes has previously stated that he was frustrated with WWE creative over how he was being used, revealing that he begged the writers to end the Stardust gimmick for more than 6 months. He pitched several ideas to the company, but they were ignored, and he finally requested his release.
