RC Cannes lost one point in Belgrad

RC Cannes lost one point in Belgrad, Nantes claimed their first victory, Mulhouse goes forward to 16th finals, while Le Cannet ends the European journey home against the strong team of Galatasary.

November, 25th, young Serbian team of Partizan Vizura Beograd made an amazing home performance which got them close to claiming their first success in the 2015 CEV DenizBank Champions League. Yan Fang and his undoubtedly more experienced players arrived in Belgrade searching for three points but in the end they had to settle for only two after winning in five sets 2:3 (22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 12-15). The game had its ups and downs: winning a first set easily, Cannes had to give up the next two in favour of Tijana Boskovic (38 points) and her team mates: 25-18, 25-19. The fourth act saw another face of RC Cannes and a Logan Tom in great shape who helped them to come back. The game had to be decided in tie-break: Partizan started with 3-0 in their favour and Tijana Boskovic was unstoppable. On the other side, Juliann Faucette and Logan Tom responded with strong and precise attacks. In the end it seems that experience won again. Nevertheless, fans expect to see an improved and more enthusiastic RC Cannes in two weeks against former champions VakifBank Istanbul.

 

Rookies Nantes VB celebrated their first victory in CL home debut against the Romanian champions of Stiinta Bacau. A hosting crowd of 1900 fans filled up Mangin Beaulieu to witness the home debut of their favourites. Once again home heroines, Angie Bland and Ariel Turner, lead Nantes towards the victory. On the other side of the net, Stiinta responded from wings with captain Denisa Rogojinaru and Ioana Baciu in great shape. French volleyball fans enjoyed last evening an intense game with two fighting teams, with comebacks on each side, with long rallies and nevertheless high level volleyball. Second set was definitely the stepping stone for Nantes VB who managed to come back  from 21-17 to claim a dramatic 27-25 win. The third act was nothing more than a formality, Stiinta Bacau doomed to a straight sets loss: 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-10). The Romanian coach admitted to have underestimated his opponents and in the end of the interview appreciated that the French team is a likely candidate to the second place in the group. On the other hand, the French coach, Sylvain Quinquis, explained the strategy, pointing that he insisted on serving well and good system block-defense.

CEV Cup. Winners two weeks ago in the first game, the Angels of Béziers managed to delight their fans on Tuesday evening, bringing the qualification in the 8th  finals in front of home crowd. A straight sets’ victory confirmed their advantage against Haifa VC: 25-19, 27-25, 25-16. Le Cannet, on the other hand, cannot join Béziers in their European pursuit. Defeated two weeks ago in Istanbul, Riccardo Marchesi’s players sold their life dearly. Fenerbahce needed five sets to qualify: 2-3 (15-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 9-15).

Challenge Cup. Heavyweight ASPTT Mulhouse was too much too stand for Luxembourg’s rookies RSR Walfer. The French players got the ticket to the 16th finals of Challenge Cup in straight sets: (25-10, 25-15, 25-11).
