When is the College Football Playoff championship 2020? Date, time, TV channel, location for NCAA title game | Sporting News

Only one contest remains in the 2019 college football season, the last game before the 2020 campaign kicks off nearly eight months from now.

No. 1 LSU takes on No. 3 Clemson in the 2020 College Football Playoff championship game. It’s a battle of Tigers that features two star-studded rosters, most notably in LSU’s Joe Burrow — Heisman Trophy winner and Sporting News Player of the Year — and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, sophomore phenom and winner of 25 straight games as a starter.

There’s so much more to the game that will take place in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, however: The clash of head coaches Ed Orgeron and Dabo Swinney, the battle of wits between LSU’s Steve Ensminger and Joe Brady and Clemson’s Brent Venables and the prospect of a historic win for either team.

LSU made the title game after a completely dominant performance over Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl, one that saw Burrow set a record for eight touchdowns in a bowl game in the Tigers’ 63-28 win. A win on Monday would complete a dream season in which they win seven games against top-10 opponent, in New Orleans no less.

Clemson’s postseason path to the title game was a little more precarious: The Tigers managed a hard-fought win — and controversial — over No. 2 Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. A win for Swinney’s Tigers would be the program’s second straight, and the first repeat since Alabama in 2011-12. It would also be the Tigers’ 30th-straight win, second-longest in college football this millenium.

All these storylines, and more, make for one final compelling piece to the 2019 college football puzzle. With that, Sporting News has you covered on how to watch the final, and biggest, game of the season:

Where is the CFP championship game 2020?

The College Football Playoff championship will be played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the first time it has hosted a national title game since 2012. Interestingly, LSU has played for the national title every time the championship game has been in New Orleans. They won the 2004 and 2008 BCS championship games against Oklahoma and Ohio State, respectively, before losing the 2012 game in a rematch to SEC West Division foe Alabama.

CFP halftime show 2020 performers

The College Football Playoff title game halftime show will consist of performances by the schools’ respective marching bands, as well as a recognition of the top 11 players in the history of college football, a CFP representative told Sporting News.

That said, the CFP title game will feature several artists who will headline AT&T Playoff Playlist Live during title game weekend leading up to the game: H.E.R., Nas and recording artist MAX will be the headline performers on Saturday; Meghan Trainor, Bastille and Rolling Stone will perform on Sunday; and Tim McGraw and Judah & the Lion will perform on Monday.

Lauren Daigle will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” prior to kickoff.

Who won the national championship in 2018?

Clemson won the 2018 national championship by downing Alabama in the 2019 College Football Playoff national championship game in Santa Clara, Calif. The Tigers won 44-16, the worst loss ever handed to Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide team. LSU, meanwhile, hasn’t played for a national title since the 2012 BCS championship game: a 21-0 loss to Alabama. LSU’s last title came in the 2008 BCS championship game, when it beat Ohio State 38-24.
