Paule Ka Pre-Fall 2019

The Paule Ka design team sent their imaginations, and their Parisian woman, to Russia. There she found a chic, fake lynx fur coat as well as patterned cocktail dresses delineated in velvet. A gold material with a scale-like pattern was used for a short skirt and jacket combination, as well as a three-quarter length suit jacket, which the designers paired with a colorful tweed skirt with fringes.

Cocktail dresses came in solid blue — with puffed-up sleeves and a long, side slit — and bright green, the V-neck trimmed with black lace. The designers sought a chic and contemporary elan for this collection, which skewed younger, as expressed by short skirts and cropped jackets. The color scheme, meanwhile, was lively. Trousers were mostly trim, with high waists, often paired with heeled leather boots worn scrunched at the ankles.

The label continues to operate in transition mode with the departure of founder Serge Cajfinger in September. Cajfinger had rejoined the company on a one-year contract to provide guidance, after ownership switched hands from a private equity owner to French businessman Xavier Marie.

Before he left, Cajfinger designed a festive capsule collection to mark the 30th anniversary of the house, which will go on sale in a pop-up space at London department store Harrods from Feb. 18.
