This is the second time these two women had attempted to travel to the hilltop shrine. Last week they had attempted to visit the Sabarimala temple, leading to a tense standoff between them and the devotees who are opposed to allowing women entry. They had to abandon the attempt and return last week. However, the women had promised that will return to visit the shrine.
