The International Court of Justice, based in The Hague, has issued its judgment in the case brought by India against Pakistan. India alleged that in sentencing Kulbhushan Jadhav to death, Pakistan violated international law relating to the detention of foreigners.
The Court found, in favor of India, that Pakistan had violated Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The Court has ordered Pakistan to provide “effective review” of the conviction and sentence. The Court has asked Pakistan not to execute Jadhav till the completion of this review.
For those unfamiliar with international law, below is a bit of background to the ICJ, the dispute and the issues involved.
