Sebastian Vettel admits he is an impatient person but the Ferrari driver says he has not set himself a deadline to bring a Formula One world title back to Maranello.
Vettel joined Ferrari ahead of the 2015 season and enjoyed a strong first year with the fabled Italian outfit, winning three races. Having entered the current campaign with renewed ambitions, Ferrari is still looking for its maiden win in 2016 and has seen Red Bull overtake it in the pecking order behind Mercedes.
When asked for reasons to explain the Scuderia’s struggles, Vettel replied: “It’s very simple, we have not been quick enough up to that point. We did not therefore collect as many points as we wanted to.
“Obviously, if you’re a lot quicker and you’re in a much better position to win races, you score more points, you get nicer questions. That’s usually how it goes. I’ve been on the other side as well. But I am pretty confident that we will have better days again.”
Ferrari has not won the Drivers’ title since 2007 with Vettel’s current team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, and last sealed the Constructors’ crown the following season.
Company CEO Sergio Marchionne has been repeatedly ramping up the pressure to deliver a winning season, while it has been suggested that Vettel was growing frustrated at the lack of progress.
The 29-year-old insists he does not have any time frame to add to his tally of four world championships.
“I don’t feel old so I think I have some time. I am not a patient person, I am pretty much the opposite.
“All of us inside the team we are not very patient. We have very high expectations, which I think we have expressed many times since the beginning of the year. We want to fight for the championship.
“We’re trying our utmost to improve. There are a lot of things happening on the track, even more things happening back at the factory in Maranello to change that.”
