Katie Eary creates capsule line in an hour

London menswear designer Katie Eary has teamed up with KFC to design a
capsule collection in her lunch hour, as part of the fast-food chain’s
#PackMoreIntoLunch campaign.

KFC challenged Eary to create a capsule womenswear collection for
spring/summer 2016 within an hour. Rather than spending months creating a
collection, the campaign shows Eary using her 60 minutes to produce 13
looks, which were then showcased in a catwalk show at the Old Truman
Brewery in London.

On the day of the challenge, Eary had at least 100 people helping her
make the collection, including 25 machinists, who produced the 13 looks,
which were brightly coloured in a palette of fluorescent orange and green,
with butterfly print motif’s superimposed over KFC chickens.

However, the entire collection wasn’t conceived in an hour, Eary was
allowed preparation time of two-weeks to make all the patterns and pre-cut
the pieces to be sewn together in the allotted 60-minutes.

Commenting on the challenge, Eary said: “I am trained to make sure that
everything is perfect before it goes on the runway, so it was really hard
for me to see things that weren’t quite 100 percent done lining up for the
catwalk.”

The designer has also designed a limited-edition sleeve for the fast
food brand’s new Ricebox lunches, which will be available at across three
London stores: Coventry Street, Tottenham Court Road and Victoria
Station.
