Trump insists he's polling ahead of Democratic 'Motley Crew'

President Donald Trump insisted Monday that he is polling ahead of what he called the “Motley Crew” of 2020 Democratic White House hopefuls, despite leaked internal polling by his own reelection campaign showing him lagging former Vice President Joe Biden in several battleground states.

“Only Fake Polls show us behind the Motley Crew,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “We are looking really good, but it is far too early to be focused on that. Much work to do! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump’s post comes one day after reports that he was cutting ties with a trio of pollsters following the dissemination of the damaging 17-state survey.

Trump last week denied the existence of the "phony polls,” declaring that "we are winning in every single state that we’ve polled."

The president’s 2020 campaign manager, Brad Parscale, confirmed the results after ABC News obtained a copy of the polling data Friday, but described the leaked figures as "ancient, in campaign terms."

Trump is scheduled to officially kick off his reelection campaign Tuesday with a rally in Orlando, Fla.
