Fantasy Injury Updates: Amari Cooper, Emmanuel Sanders, Josh Gordon affect Week 7 WR rankings | Sporting News

Wide receiver injuries leave fantasy owners grasping at thin air. Amari Cooper, Emmanuel Sanders and Josh Gordon all failed to complete their Week 6 games. If they’re out, that’s a big hole in any fantasy football lineup (and our WR rankings) heading into Week 7. The problem is that WR injuries don’t usually present any obvious waiver wire claims and pickups. The best hope is just that the wideouts get healthy and are active come Week 7.

Amari Cooper injury update

UPDATE: ESPN’s Todd Archer reports Cooper’s availability for Week 7 is in “serious question”

Cooper didn’t play in the second half Sunday against the Jets. He’s been diagnosed with a bruised thigh, according to Ian Rapoport. On the bright side, there’s no long-term damage. On the downside, the injury was obviously painful enough to restrict Cooper from returning to a game in which Dallas trailed. That puts his Week 7 status in some doubt.

Cooper’s absence, coupled with Randall Cobb’s back injury, forced Tavon Austin and Cedrick Wilson to join Michael Gallup when the Cowboys went three wide. It’s a tricky spot for Cooper owners, along with those speculating on Austin or Wilson. Dallas plays on Sunday night in Week 7, so there might still be game-time decisions ahead of the prime-time game, but it’s also a juicy matchup with an Eagles’ secondary that Kirk Cousins just dominated. For now, we’d expect Cooper to suit up, but it could be a long week for Cooper owners.

Will Emmanuel Sanders play Week 7?

UPDATE: Sanders was listed as “limited” on Monday’s practice report

Sanders left Denver’s Week 6 game with a knee injury and didn’t return. Matters are complicated by the Broncos hosting Kansas City on Thursday night in Week 7, giving him just a few days to recover. As of Sunday night, NFL Network’s James Palmer reported that there wasn’t much concern about the injury even with the short week.

If Sanders were to be out Thursday, DaeSean Hamilton would presumably fill his role. Hamilton caught both of his targets for 25 yards Sunday, as the Broncos didn’t throw much. Hamilton only really makes sense as a pickup if you own Sanders and don’t feel like providing alternate insurance.

Josh Gordon injury news

Gordon injured his knee attempting to make a tackle after a fumble on Thursday night against the Giants. He was seen afterward riding a stationary bike on the sideline, and Ian Rapoport reported it wasn’t a serious injury. Gordon gets a long turnaround as the Pats don’t play until Monday night at the Jets.

We should have an idea whether Gordon’s knee is something to be concerned about by the latter half of the week. Phillip Dorsett (hamstring), who missed Week 6, is also looking to return from an injury for Week 7 and get the Pats’ WR corps up to full strength.
