Fantasy Football Injury Updates: James Conner, Will Dissly impact Week 7 waiver wire pickups | Sporting News

Football can be a cruel game, and fantasy football owners are just at the mercy of what happens on the field. Will Dissly sustained what looks to be a season-ending injury Sunday, and he’ll go from waiver-wire darling back off fantasy rosters for the second-straight year. Things don’t look as bad for James Conner in Pittsburgh, but we don’t really have a great idea yet of whether he’ll miss time, which would make Benny Snell Jr. a good waiver pickup after the Steelers’ bye.

James Conner injury update

Conner was having a solid Sunday Night Football outing via dump-off passes from Devlin Hodges before he departed and missed the final quarter because of a quad injury. With the Steelers’ bye upcoming, we may not learn a lot about Conner’s injury until next week.

With Jaylen Samuels out, it was the rookie from Kentucky, Benny Snell Jr., who got the carries after Conner departed. Samuels’ initial timetable would have him out beyond the bye, too, so Snell would be looking at a heavy workload if Conner’s injury was serious. Snell rushed 17 times for 75 yards Sunday, mostly in the fourth quarter. The Steelers play the Dolphins in Week 8, so all Pittsburgh players looking at touches in that game are in play. Snell is worth a speculative add this week, but because of the uncertainty surrounding Conner, Snell isn’t worth a high waiver claim.

How long is Will Dissly out?

Dissly went down with a non-contact injury on Sunday, and multiple reports indicate the Seahawks fear he tore his left Achilles’ tendon. An MRI Monday will be taken to confirm that fear. If that’s the diagnosis, Dissly will miss the remainder of the 2019 season and probably not be ready for the start of 2020. This comes after Dissly missed most of 2018 after tearing his right patellar tendon.

Monday’s MRI should confirm that you can drop Dissly in season-long leagues. It’s a shame, as both last year and this season, Dissly proved himself a solid tight end when he’s been on the field. He’ll return sometime in the future having sustained a serious injury to each of his legs, making his future fantasy value a huge question mark. Hopefully for Dissly’s sake, he’s able to return to full strength and not be hampered long-term by the injuries. Luke Willson will take over the primary TE duties for Seattle, but he can’t be expected to produce like Dissly was. If anything WRs such as D.K. Metcalf and Jaron Brown could soak up the extra targets.
