For all the talk about the Astros’ starting rotation entering the MLB postseason, their opponent in the ALDS, the Rays, are also built to shut down offenses.
Across from Houston’s Big 3 of Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole and Zack Greinke, Tampa Bay will trot out a trio of talented arms hoping to step up and match their vaunted counterparts. Tyler Glasnow and Charlie Morton each posted sub-3.10 ERAs this year. Blake Snell won a 2018 Cy Young award.
Which staff steps up, then, will be a primary factor in deciding the series.

Houston has advanced to the ALCS in each of the past two seasons, winning the World Series in 2017. This is Tampa Bay’s first playoff appearance since 2013; it beat the A’s in the wild card game to reach the ALDS.
