Eric Weddle injury update: Rams safety 'on track' to play vs. Saints | Sporting News

The Rams believe Eric Weddle will be on the field Sunday.

The 34-year-old safety has been in concussion protocol this week. However, Los Angeles coach Sean McVay said he’s expecting Weddle to play against the Saints in Week 2.

“He’s feeling good,” McVay told reporters Wednesday (via the team’s official website). “He was asymptomatic so he’s on track.”

Weddle suffered the injury during the Rams’ 30-27 win over the Panthers last weekend. He was carted off the field in the second quarter after Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey made contact with Weddle’s head while leaping over him.

Weddle was motionless on the field for a few moments before sitting up to be tended to by trainers. He was visibly bloodied and needed help standing before being taken to the locker room.

“You’ve got to go through everything as far as passing everything we need (for concussion protocol),” McVay said about Weddle playing against New Orleans. “But I anticipate him being ready to go.”

The six-time Pro Bowl player is in his first season with the Rams after spending the last three years with the Ravens.
