Oliver Perez stands on mound in socks, Francisco Lindor adjusts them with his bare hands | Sporting News

An odd turn of events in Boston on Monday led to Indians left-hander Oliver Perez standing on the mound in his socks before throwing a pitch.

After a spike on his cleats appeared to break, Perez waited on the hill for someone to bring him a new pair of shoes. His teammates gathered around him, and Francisco Lindor bent over and adjusted one of Perez’s socks at the toes with his bare hands.

We don’t recommend standing in dirt without shoes or touching another man’s socks without gloves, but what do we know?

Shoes weren’t the only thing to malfunction for Perez – he went on to surrender a three-run homer to Sandy Leon that effectively put the game out of reach. The Red Sox wound up winning 12-5.

Perez has a 4.73 ERA this year amid a struggling Indians bullpen, which has been a source of pain for Cleveland for a couple of years now.
