Flower Moxie Review: Anna Marie’s DIY Wedding Flower Experience

If you’ve ever planned a wedding, you know that it can be quite the undertaking. Every detail matters, from the color scheme to the centerpieces. And when it comes to flowers, the options are endless.

Recently, Amy had the pleasure of sitting down with Anna Marie who took on the role of florist for her best friend’s wedding. She shared with us everything she loved about building the floral designs and the specific flowers she used. Her passion for the art of floral arrangement was evident, and it was clear that this was a labor of love.

Let’s dive into her DIY experience so you can hear from someone who’s been there, done it, and done it really well!!

What was your favorite part
about DIYing?

I loved the creativity that I got to tap into throughout the whole process. Flower DIY was the perfect blend of my creative side and my type A side. I really enjoyed all of the organizing that was needed for prep and then of course the actual building of all the arrangements. The whole process start to finish was a DREAM!!! It’s also so fulfilling to have people swooning over your work on wedding day! And I got to help Madi create what she wanted (and she felt comfortable telling me yes or no versus some stranger :))

Why did you choose to DIY
your flowers?

I have been interested in wedding florals for a while (and I’m not getting married anytime soon 😉 and so my bestie gal, Madi, let me try my hand at em for her wedding. She was the chillest bride EVA!

Who did you have help from?

EVERYONE!! Madi’s grandma used to work in a floral shop and so she loved getting to help. Madi’s grandpa, mom, aunt, and dad all helped. Even some of her brother’s friends jumped in. I had help from another bridesmaid to make all the girls’ bouquets (because she had TEN BRIDESMAIDS….fun, but that’s a lot of bouquets!)

Where did you get married and why did you choose this location?

Madi & Ryan got married at The Sixty-Two in Madison, GA. It’s about 20 mins from the University of Georgia where they both met. Madi would pass the venue while driving to see Ryan while they were doing long distance and knew she wanted to get married there one day.

Was it a destination wedding?

Kind of. Madi’s family is from Texas and Ryan’s family is from south GA (which is about 4 hours from the venue). We had people from Washington, Michigan, Virginia, and California!

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

Ryan (Groom): getting to hear Madi say her vows and ultimately hearing her say I Do.

Madi (Bride): getting to have all our family and friends in one place and our dance floor was AMAZING! also getting to wipe away Ryan’s (many) tears at the altar.

Anna Marie (MOH and flower queen): getting to see my best friend marry her best friend. It was bittersweet passing off my roommate of over three years to her new roommate, but I loved helping her create a day that celebrated the two of them so beautifully.

In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?

Wellllll…..I planned the whole wedding and did all the flowers, on top of being Maid of Honor and I’m not sure I would do that again. Thankfully we were super organized and proactive about everything so I really felt like I was able to enjoy the weekend and be present….but it was definitely a lot!! But I would do anything for my GAL!!!!

Tips for future DIYers?

Make sure everything non-flowers is done before that three days out. You won’t want to worry about anything else besides flowers!! Also, getting a day-of coordinator with some flower expertise was AMAZING! She was able to put finishing touches on things the day of and I totally trusted her to do a great job. Also….if you have ten bridesmaids…just make sure you have lots of coffee and you do some hand exercises to prep because that’s a LOT of bouquets!

Were there any funny or strange mishaps you can share?

We got spray tans the Thursday before the wedding and the other bridesmaid who was helping me with the bridesmaid bouquets…we had a big streak between our thumb and index finger from holding the bouquets while we were making them. But on the whole things went SO smoothly.

How did you add personalized touches to your day?

Madi wasn’t huge on the personal touches, but they had a sweet memory table for Madi’s grandparents and Ryan’s grandpa. I also loved how the font from their invites, to the welcome sign, to the seating chart, to the table numbers were all the same. Madi didn’t have a whole lot of preferences, but she loved the font we chose and wanted to make it cohesive throughout the day!

Which part of your wedding are you most proud of?

I am really proud of everything I was able to do myself for the first time seeing a wedding through from start to finish. I also felt like we were able to create a really elevated, classy look for a reasonable price. It was simple and timeless. Also, everyone raved about how fun the dance floor was, and I was thrilled to be able to help create that vibe.

It was an honor to stand beside my best friend and I am so grateful she let me take her day and run with it. She’s a gem for real!! I was blown away by the flowers and I really do think anyone can DIY their wedding flowers (if they’re up for a fun challenge).

Anything else you would like to add?

Flower Moxie is a DREAM!! and I love working with them. I recommend them all the time and am looking for more friends who will let me work with FM to do their wedding flowers :)))))
