Wales got their Six Nations campaign off to a superb start with a highly impressive 31-5 triumph over Ireland at Cardiff Arms Park.
The Welsh were absolutely outstanding in the opening half, securing the bonus-point after 33 minutes through Alex Callender, Keira Bevan, Sioned Harries and Hannah Jones tries.
They added another through talented teenager Sisilia Tuipulotu early in the second period and a half-century of points looked on the cards.
To their credit, however, the Irish battled and were rewarded with a consolation try from Nichola Fryday, but it was very much Wales’ day.
Dominant Welsh
Wales dominated the first period, controlling the forward exchanges and creating several opportunities from which they scored four tries via Callender, Bevan, Harries and Jones.
Ireland had no response as the hosts repelled anything they threw at them and were left scoreless until late in the contest.
Fryday’s try did give them something to hold on to but they could be in for another long day against a superb France team next weekend.
Wales, meanwhile, will seek to continue their momentum after a promising Six Nations start with a match against Scotland.
