PSG must sell next – but remain focused on a Paul Pogba deal

As reported by L’Équipe, PSG now must make transfer window sales, following the signings of Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Achraf Hakimi, but remain focused on the signing of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Pogba remains keen on a move, rather than extending his contract with Manchester United, which expires in 12 months – according to the outlet who cite members of Pogba’s entourage, a move to PSG interests him.

The PSG board has been after him for several months and his performances at the Euros have reaffirmed that desire. Sporting Director Leonardo has a very close relationship with the player’s agent Mino Raiola, who has already done a deal with Les Parisiens this summer in the form of the Donnarumma deal.

In order to sign Pogba, PSG expect that they will need to pay between €50m and €60m, and they must now sell players to balance the books before entering into contact with Manchester United for fee negotiations.

Even though FFP has been relaxed, Les Parisiens cannot do whatever they please, as they have told French football’s financial watchdog, the DNCG, that they intend to make €150m in sales this summer.

Amongst the sellable assets are Alphonse Areola, Thilo Kehrer and Pablo Sarabia, but Leonardo is looking to move some central midfielders on. Aside from Ander Herrera, who has strong admirers in Spain, and Rafinha, who has not convinced Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff, it will be complicated to make sales in this region of the pitch.

Julian Draxler, who has recently signed a contract extension, likes life in Paris. Danilo Pereira has just signed permanently following an obligation to buy clause. Idrissa Gueye is now loved by Mauricio Pochettino. Leandro Paredes, who still has 2 years on his contract, is too well installed in the South American clan in the squad for the club to be able to push for his exit.
