Le10sport report tonight that Newcastle have made an enquiry for out-of-favour Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler, with the German on an 11-man transfer list drawn up by the Ligue 1 champions.
Initial talks have taken place between the Premier League side and the German international’s representatives, while PSG are looking to bring in a fee between €20m and €30m to part ways with the former Schalke 04 man.
It remains unclear as to whether the 28-year-old himself is open to the move, although given his absence from the pre-season tour in Japan it appears evident that his employers are showing him the exit door.
Draxler made just the 18 appearances in the league last season, scoring twice, in what was another campaign in which he failed to impose himself as a permanent fixture of the team, in the face of a crowded field of competition for a wide spot in the capital.
In his six years with the club, the World Cup winner has made just short of 200 appearances, scoring 26 goals and assisting another 41 all the while picking up 4 Ligue 1 titles.
