AS Roma waiting on PSG to greenlight Gini Wijnaldum loan-deal

According to Fabrizio Romano, Roma are waiting on Paris Saint-Germain to greenlight the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum (31) on a loan-deal. The next 24 to 48 hours are crucial for finding a full agreement between the two clubs for the Dutchman.

Last week it was reported by RMC Sport that PSG and Roma were in talks over an initial loan deal with a €10m permanent option, which will become automatic should the Giallorossi qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season. Discussions were notably facilitated by the good relationship between PSG sporting advisor Luís Campos and Roma manager José Mourinho.

The midfielder joined PSG on a free transfer from Liverpool last summer, signing a contract which sees him earn a €9m yearly salary. He has already agreed on personal terms with the club and has removed all references to PSG on his social media, despite being under contract until 2024. He made 38 appearances in all competitions in what was a largely disappointing first season in Ligue 1 – and was named GFFN’s Flop of the Season for the 2021/22 campaign.

He has generally been anonymous and ineffectual in games, whilst also being included on Luis Campos’ list of 11 players that he wants to sell this summer – being left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s recently-concluded Japan tour as well as the squad to face FC Nantes in the Trophée des Champions in Tel Aviv this evening.
